Beschreibung

A city's dominant geographical and economic entity throws it open to processes and influxes whose magnitude and dynamicity renders vulnerability of a high order to the city. Thus, emerge the various management questions to which urban planning in general is accepted as the most suitable solution and in which a plan is taken as the best representative of practical dimension to this planning. In this category, master planning is observed as an authoritative method of planning. While plenty of literature is available on urban planning, studies on master planning are quite scarce in nature. The present study is an aim to provide an insight into this scant literature and also contributing to it by extending the analysis to a city that is a national capital and has adopted the master planning strategy emphatically-Delhi (India). The study is presented in two volumes in which the first one brings out in detail literature on the topic and practices of master planning around the world. The second one focuses on the case study of Delhi with specific reference to master planning strategy and comparing it with best practices observed in urban planning at various levels
