During his career he was best known for his farcical comedies involving dockside and rural Essex characters.E. T. A. Hoffmann was a German Romantic author of fantasy and Gothic horror, a jurist, composer, music critic and artist. Hoffmann's stories highly influenced 19th-century literature, and he is one of the major authors of the Romantic movement.Howard Phillips Lovecraft was an American writer of weird fiction and horror fiction. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he spent most of his life there, and his fiction was primarily set against a New England backdrop.Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist and travel writer, most noted for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and A Child's Garden of Verses.
